Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best way to take care of the tile floors in my bathroom and kitchen?

Use a cleaner that has “neutral pH” on the label. Or you can mix baking soda and water as a homemade cleaner. Pour half a cup of baking soda into two gallons of water and mix very well. Then apply the liquid with a string mop or sponge mop. You don’t want to put harsh chemicals on tile, not even the chemicals that are in steel wool pads — there’s always a risk that you’re affecting the color or etching the polish. There might be fading or staining that you don’t notice that seeps in over time. However the cleanest shower is always a dry shower.  Our clients who dry their shower completely with a towel have the best results

What is the best Hardwood floor cleaner?

Bella Hardwood floor cleaner is the best to use imo.  The worst thing to do is a damp mop.  Tap water leaves deposits behind that will dry the wood and damage it over time.

How long does a kitchen or bathroom remodel take to complete?

That’s a really tricky area.  Many factors will affect the timeline.  First will be order placement.  If we do semi-custom cabinets, delivery could be 4-6 weeks from order placement.  Permitting also affects the speed in which we can finish.  However, most bathrooms can be completed in 2-3 weeks.  Kitchens between 3-4 weeks.  Those estimates are based on no change to the overall footprint of your kitchen or bathroom.

What type of products do you use?

We are particular when it comes to our materials used in your Kitchen or Bath Remodel.  Mapei is our mortar and grout manufacturer.  Guru USA provides the best waterproofing material in the industry.  Delta Faucets are lifetime warranty on parts.  Kohler toilets offer the best selection and options.  Flooring and tile manufacturers include Shaw, Lions Floor, Lawson, Mohawk, Texas Traditions, Dal-Tile, Emser Tile, Arizona Tile and many more first quality goods.  Cabinetry can be sourced from Waypoint Living Spaces, Wolfe, Kemper, and several local cabinet makers.  Counter tops are sourced from Dal-Tile, MSI, or any slab yard in your local neighborhood.

Are permits required to Renovate my Kitchen or Bathroom?

The short answer is NO.  However it is important to consider the license and insurance of your contractor.  If they are licensed then all industry standards must be met.  Permits are required if we are affecting the footprint of the space.  For instance moving a stove, shower, toilet, sink, etc. to another location in the kitchen or bath.  We are insured for your protection. All our electrical and plumbing subcontractors are licensed and insured as well.

Do you offer financing?

Yes we offer financing from Acorn.  They handle all the application process and funding directly.  Turing you into a cash customer.  Financing terms will vary based on the lender your are matched with.  Please contact us for more information or follow the link  https://www.acornfinace.com/prequalify/?d=AK63J

Will there be dust?

YES!  Unfortunately it is unavoidable.  However we can mitigate the effect by using plastic and filtered fans.  We pride ourselves in being one of the neatest contractors in DFW , but We strongly recommend a cleaning crew after construction is complete.

If there’s only minor damage to a floor, can one small area be restored?

YES!  But you must know the color of grout used and have a spare piece of flooring available.  If you don't have those things then sadly it will all need replaced.

Okay, so tell me: What exactly is “a really good  kitchen and bath contractor”?

Someone who’s experienced with different scope and size projects, who can make sure moisture doesn’t get under the flooring. Someone who understands the design you want and who can work within your budget constraints . Your contractor has to take into consideration the layout of plumbing , electrical outlets, air conditioning ducts, whether the foundation footings or the lumber in the house frame are susceptible to settling. Your contractor should strive to keep jobsite clean and be respectful of your home.  Especially if you decide to stay in the home during construction.  Someone who can provide a written estimate of the cost and estimated completion.  Someone who communicates daily and makes you aware quickly of unexpected hurdles.  Someone who is insured.  Someone who stands behind their work if a problem arises.  If they don’t…well, we see so many disasters.

Like what?

Showers pitched so that water drains the wrong way. Stress cracks across an entire floor. Different colors of stone not mixed evenly so the floor has splotches, and colored grouts used in batches that weren’t of consistent color.  Paint pealing from not be prepped properly.  Drywall joints cracked from foundation or structural issues. Trail of debris not cleaned up and disposed.  We could go on and on.
